KavarClean® and KavarWipe®: Products and Application

Gentle treatment and cleaning of chromium(VI)-contaminated metal surfaces as well as a chromate-inhibiting effect where substitution is not (yet) possible or is planned only for a later date.

KavarClean®Redox Powder

An active ingredient system that reduces chromium(VI) and binds dust

KavarClean®Redox Powder produces a surface-friendly treatment solution. The system of an organic reducing agent and a complexing acid converts chromium(VI) into the less toxic chromium(III) and binds contaminated dust. The powder is mixed by the user and applied as a spray or in the KavarWipe® cloths.

It is intended as an aid for remediation and maintenance work and in the vehicle sector wherever substitution of the insulation material is not planned. It does not replace the risk assessment, the protective equipment or the substitution.

Wrapping instead of spraying: binding dust before it is stirred up

By using the KavarWipe® cloths, the KavarClean® treatment method prevents the uncontrolled release of fiber dust caused by spray bursts while providing a gentle surface treatment.

BIND

Apply damp

The damp cloths bind the dust particles immediately during application and capture virtually all airborne contaminants.

ENHANCE

Lightly re-moisten

After a short contact time, the cloths are lightly sprayed with the KavarClean® spray bottle to enhance the deep-acting chromium(VI) reduction.

HAND-MOIST

No uncontrolled spraying

The application remains hand-moist. There are no spray shadows and no dripping into the surroundings.

Film | KavarWipe® application

Application on a removed component in the black area

In 18 steps, the film shows the procedure with material airlock and personnel airlock: covering the floor, workbench and personnel airlock, bringing the covered component in through the material airlock, placing damp KavarWipe® cloths on bolts and suspect surfaces, wrapping the cloths together with the absorbent underlay, re-spraying the return bag in the material airlock and disposing of protective suits and gloves through the disposal chute.

The film is captioned in English.

Occupational safety

Regardless of the system chosen: full protective equipment

Under occupational safety regulations, complete protective clothing including nitrile gloves, respiratory protection and safety goggles is mandatory. You are working with carcinogenic and chronically environmentally harmful substances.

Anyone exposed to chromium(VI) compounds at the workplace is entitled to written information, to medical examinations before and after exposure and, for particularly dust-intensive activities involving carcinogenic substances, to entry in the exposure register, which the employer must keep for 40 years. Speak to your workshop manager, your occupational safety specialist or your employer.
